5 Steps to Reset Your Health Goals & Break Through the Mid-Year Slump

July 1st marked the first day of the second half of the year. Can you believe the first half of this year is already gone? Do you feel like your health & life goals have hit a bit of a slump? Now is a great time to reignite your motivation and get back on track! The mid-year slump can be a common obstacle in our health journeys, but it doesn't have to define our progress. Below, I’ve outlined 5 steps to reset your health goals and avoid the “mid-year slump”. Get ready to unleash your energy and propel yourself towards a healthier and happier you!

1. Reflect on the Past Six Months:

Take a moment to reflect on how far you've come (past six months, a year, and beyond), and acknowledge your accomplishments, both big and small. Celebrate any progress you've made and the positive changes you've incorporated into your lifestyle. Did you make New Year’s goals/intentions that you’d like to revisit? Ask yourself: what’s working, what are you grateful for, and what can be improved? Be kind to yourself and understand that challenges are also a natural part of any journey. Embrace the lessons learned from setbacks and use them as stepping stones - challenges can become OPPORTUNITIES towards greater success. Remember, self-compassion is key to maintaining a positive mindset and continued growth.

2. Set SMART Goals:

Now that you’ve taken time to assess your current or previous health goals and re-evaluate them, you can set new SMART goals that will propel you towards success. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For example, instead of saying, "I want to exercise more," make it SMART by saying, "I will walk for 30 minutes, after lunch time, five times a week, for the next three months." With SMART goals, you'll have a clear roadmap to success and the drive to reach new heights. You can read more examples of SMART goals here.

3. Create a Plan:

A well-structured plan is essential for achieving your health goals. Break down your long-term goals into smaller, manageable steps. Create a weekly or monthly plan that includes specific actions, such as meal prepping, scheduling exercise sessions, and prioritizing self-care. By visualizing your plan and committing it to paper, you'll enhance your focus and increase the likelihood of following through. Print out your plan and hang it up somewhere you’ll see it every day. Don't forget to track your progress and celebrate milestones along the way—every step forward is a reason to celebrate!

4. Find New Motivation:

Motivation is the driving force behind your health journey. What are some things that you’ve been wanting to do that you wish you had more energy, strength, flexibility, endurance, etc. for? Maybe going out dancing, outdoor hikes, playing with your kids or grandkids, or going on a trip somewhere. Let these aspirations motivate you and give meaning and purpose to your health journey.

Seek support from others who share your aspirations: connect with friends, family, or online communities to share experiences, tips, and encouragement. Try exploring new activities or workouts to add variety and excitement to your routine. Listen to talks and podcasts that focus on self growth to help you stay motivated and energized. Focus on the positive impact these changes will have on your overall well-being, and let that drive you towards success.

5. Stay Accountable:

Accountability is a powerful tool to maintain momentum. Find strategies that work for you to stay on track. Set regular check-ins with yourself to evaluate progress and make adjustments. Consider finding an accountability partner who shares similar goals and can provide support and motivation. Utilize technology tools and apps that can help you track your progress, send reminders, and provide insights. An app that I like is Finch: Self Care Pet - it’s a cute app that makes it fun to track your goals and boost your mental health.

The remaining months of the year hold incredible potential for your health and well-being. Let your energy ignite and grow as you make positive changes and watch yourself flourish. Remember, YOU have the power to create the vibrant, healthy life you deserve. Take action today and let the second half of the year be a triumphant chapter in your health story!

Now, go out there and conquer your health goals! You've got this! 🙌
