FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is chiropractic?

A: Chiropractic is about so much more than helping neck and back pain. Chiropractic is about helping the body heal itself as it was designed to do, through the interface of the spine and nervous system. The nervous system – brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves that spread throughout the body – are the control and feedback system, basically the lens through which we perceive and experience our whole world, internally and externally. When that “lens” is misaligned or distorted, it affects everything from how we heal to how we interact with the world around us. Chiropractors are especially good at helping people move from a chronic state of fight or flight (perceiving threat, hypervigilance, anxiety) to rest, digest, heal (perceiving safety, wellbeing). When the spine and body are aligned and the nervous system is properly regulated, we can heal and experience life to our fullest potential.

Q: What is a chiropractic treatment like?

A: Chiropractors practice in many different ways, using our hands or instruments to make adjustments to the spine and body. Dr. Masae Hori uses gentle techniques including Network Spinal and Bio-Geometric Integration to make light touches to the body at very precise points, to release bound energy which the body uses to reorganize and heal. There is no “cracking” or “popping” of the spinal joints involved necessarily. These techniques are safe, gentle, and effective for people of all ages: newborn babies, elderly, and everyone in between.
A typical session is about 15-20 minutes.

Q: What can I expect from this kind of care?

A: The most common things people report from receiving this kind of care are relaxation, releasing tension, more energy during the day, better sleep at night, and greater adaptability to handle everyday stresses. Because this chiropractic care enhances the body’s internal awareness, people often notice their body’s cues more strongly, such as a need to move more, drink more water, or get better sleep. Each person’s case is different, so the improvements and changes you experience can also be very unique to you.

Q: How does such a light touch make a difference?

A: We work the body’s nervous system, which is finely tuned and sensitive to even the lightest of stimuli. You can think of it like a smartphone screen – it responds with just a light touch, so more force isn’t necessary. With this gentle chiropractic care, it only takes a light touch at precise points to cue the brain to release stored tension and energy and reorganize the body for healing. We also use breathwork to help enhance bodily awareness and internal communication and connection.

Q: Can you treat my (back pain, headaches, allergies, digestive issues, etc.)?

A: While chiropractic care isn’t a “treatment” for any specific ailment, people find relief and healing from many things from joint and muscle pain, headaches, digestive issues, allergies and immune system strength, chronic conditions, and much more. This is because chiropractic works with the body’s innate capacity for self-healing by optimizing alignment and nervous system communication, helping the body function at its best in every way. The chiropractor’s job is to help remove interferences to the body’s capacity to heal, so it is not in the doctor’s power to heal anyone else. That healing power resides in your own body.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Our fees for care are listed on the Services and Fees page.

We also offer a Sliding Scale program with reduced rates based on income for people who qualify. To learn more, schedule a phone consultation with Dr. Masae at https://bodhitree.janeapp.com

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: Dr. Masae is an out-of-network provider with all insurances. While we do not work directly with insurance, we can give you a detailed bill (called a “super bill”) with all the codes and charges after your visit which you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Q: Why don’t you work directly with insurance?

A: Our model of practice at Bodhi Tree focuses on maintaining and advancing a state of optimum health and wellness, independent of the presence or absence of symptoms. We believe that health insurance companies shouldn’t be the ones to decide how many chiropractic visits you are “allowed” since they are not the ones seeing you in person, evaluating the state of your body and nervous system, and providing you with care.
Most policies will help pay for chiropractic care only when you have obvious symptoms. Benefits usually run out by the time you are feeling better, but before underlying issues are fully healed. This invites a relapse of your original problem. Lasting healing occurs after symptoms clear up. If you rely on your carrier, you're likely to suffer a roller coaster series of relapses without correcting your underlying issues that led to symptoms in the first place.

Q: Do you accept Medicare?

The technique that Dr. Masae practices, Network Spinal, is a non-covered service for Medicare, as this light-touch method is considered to be a "non-manipulative treatment". Therefore, Medicare cannot be used to cover chiropractic services at this office.
